St. Paul’s Italian Fest Concludes After a Perfect Weekend of Culture, Cuisine, and Sunshine
A beloved tradition in Erie’s Little Italy neighborhood came to a close on Sunday, marking the end of a weekend filled with European heritage.
The Italian festival at St. Paul’s Church on Walnut Street celebrated its final day, wrapping up a vibrant weekend dedicated to Italian culture.
The air was alive with the sounds and scents of Italy at the 2024 St. Paul’s Italian Fest, culminating in a performance by Italian dancers, each showcasing the unique traditions of different regions across Italy.
According to one of the event’s chefs, the weekend was a resounding success, thanks to clear skies and a strong turnout from the local community.
“I can tell you that we’re probably going to go through 3,000 cannolis, and we’ve made 1,300 cream puffs, which are almost gone, along with about 6,000 to 7,000 cookies. It’s been a wonderful experience,” shared Luigi Pontillo, the Italian Festival captain.
Pontillo also noted that while Erie’s Italian community has diminished over the years, events like this are crucial for bringing people together to celebrate their shared heritage.
